ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sylvia Zook is an educator by calling, a powerful motivator because of what she has personally experienced and witnessed. For decades her dynamic ministry has inspired and taught many through various wellness seminars, conferences, lectures, newspaper columns, international newsletter, ezine, her books, her Web site and countless other Web sites––all of which publish her articles about how to eat healthy and why.
Ten years of higher education, 42 years of research, and her private practice have resulted in this educator's evidence-based, bioavailable, "tried in the fire" nutrition. The combined true science and scriptural health program she writes about in Eatin' After Eden has enabled her to maintain 60-hour workweeks for decades, well into advanced age in spite of profound health challenges since birth. More than one physician has opined that her energizing, healing diet keeps her functioning remarkably while she continues to work overtime helping others.
Formal Education & Training:
Undergraduate studies - University of Alabama (Mobile, B'ham), School of Commerce & Business Administration; University of North Alabama, Liberal Arts and Biology.
Postgraduate studies - Clayton College: MS & PhD in nutrition.1 Recognized as the leading college of natural health, Clayton College is #1 in the US in training natural health practitioners. "With a practical approach of teaching and consultation, individual clients are viewed holistically––as whole persons––rather than sets of symptoms. Thus, this model embraces the belief that through imparting knowledge the practitioner empowers and motivates the client to assume greater personal responsibility for his or her health." After all, the Latin root of "doctor" (doctore') means "to teach."
Continuing Professional Education:
In addition to on-going nutrition research, Dr. Sylvia's continuing education in nutrition has included conferences by scientists such as biochemist Jeffrey S. Bland, PhD, former senior research scientist at the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine. She studied applied enzymes under Howard F. Loomis, Jr., DC. Dr. Loomis was a student of the noted authority and pioneer in enzyme research, Edward Howell, MD (1898-1995), "the first researcher to recognize and delineate the importance of the enzymes in food to human nutrition." Dr. Sylvia continues nutrition research, participating in on-going nutrition seminars with leading nutrition educators and clinical practitioners.
